Nick Fing Robinson!

Just finished watching the game on DVR not being half baked like last night so was able to watch individual performances closely. Did I say Nick Fing Robinson. Kid was in a lot toward the end on the last drive where we essentially ran unbalanced left with him on the outside next to Pugh in the "Tank" formation. Most of the short yardage plays ran were right over him and man did the kid perform.

Dude not only holds his block but pancakes the very large Pitt DL not once but twice, and the other plays more holds his own with good push and shield blocks. Even though it is a small sample size I haven't seen that dominant a stretch from a OT here since Blake Bednarz. Adam Terry and Pugh are/were good solid tackles who had great form too but this kids leg drive, explosion off the ball, and technique was impressive. Thus the prediction that if he can pass block even averagely then we have our next solid OT to take over very capably for Pugh. And if so and we were staying in the BE, no brainer all BE at some point in his career, in the ACC we should have a very good one.

They don't call him flapjack robinson for nothing! Seriously having 2 kids not play a down before Saturday and step up like they did...wow. This Robinson kid (and of course the other young guys) is giving me quite a lot enthusiasm for the oline's future.

There's nothing new about that play for him, that one play is 50% of B'villes offense. Getting in 4pt stance and firing low is something he knows all about.

Robinson wasn't at LG. Chibane was. Robinson was to the left of Pugh as I recall.

Great to hear, with our injury history having a depth player like him could be invaluable this year and next.

I remember him playing defense in high school games. He was all over the field. Instead of his name it should have said "football player" on the back of his jersey.

Now tell me if Tyler Rouse is a FBS level player and how likely is he to be an Orangeman?

Many 2 star kids do very well. Most don't. Some 4-5 star kids bomb, many don't.

The important thing is the big picture, not an individual player.

I once suggested to Jim Boeheim that if a player is an NBA starter by the age of 25, he was probably 20% of what he was going to be coming into college and 80% of what eh was going to be coming out. He agreed. It's the saving grace of college football. Otherwise the top tier of schools wouldn't just be the only ones who are good every year. They'd be the only ones who are any good at all. But because they are all recrutiing 16 years olds, there's enough guess work- and hard work- involved that not all the football factory players pan and and enough become stars at other schools to make it interesting.

I ws stunned SU didn't offer him sooner then they did. kid is agreat athlete for his size. I've known him for years and thought he was had the potential to be a big-time D1 player. Knew Chuck Sweeney and Bill Pendock from my younger days and felt that Nick was a much better prospect then they were.

Obviously, there are plenty of the consensus "can't miss" type players that every school would love to sign, but once you get past them it's a crap shoot. IMO, the staff's ability to evaluate talent is far more important. Do I get excited when we sign a 4 star guy? Sure I do, but I also get excited when we sign players like Chan Jones, George Morris and Zach Allen. Any person who has a rudimentary understanding of FB should be able to see the potential in players like these.

Case in point: Perennially, Pitt signs a top 30 recruiting class, yet we just beat them at their own game. According to star gazers, this couldn't/shouldn't happen. Can we blame this on "Ole 30 second Bob" and his Pitt bias?? Maybe. Additionally, I learned on this very board that Marrone and staff suck so we know we didn't out coach the Pitt staff. Hey...even a broken clock it right twice a day, right? So...how on earth did SU, a team with a piss poor coaching staff and a roster full of 2 and 3 star players beat Pitt? Maybe we shouldn't even show-up next week.

In the meantime, I'll keep reading the board searching for answers from all the gurus (not directed at you Bees) chiming in with their expert analysis. I might even be persuaded that the glass is actually half empty after all.

You nailed it...the kid is an athlete first. He wasn't technically sound in HS but he you could see the potential. NR was also a pretty darn good BB player who could really run the floor.

I think there may have been other reasons we didn't offer him sooner. Also, we had others who were more highly rated on our board. Also, he may be a star in the making but that is still TBD. He's not even in the field yet except for that jumbo package. If he isn't Chibanes replacement next year, he wont be a starter until his junior year at best. Stars usually start before then, like Pugh did. Personally, I think he will be very good.

Yes he was and that's exactly what made him a first rate O-line prospect. The kid is extremely agile for his size.

Not sure if he will be a star but fully expect him to be starter here at some point in his carreer.

I was always impressed with how much Nick was on campus that spring of his senior year of HS. He was right in there watching drills and taking notes almost every day. Granted, being in B'Ville allowed him to be around, but not a lot of kids would put in that extra work when they're trying to enjoy their last few months of HS.
