NIL video

One thing that has come up at the University of Iowa is their AD and the head of one of Iowa's collectives have had a bit of a public back and forth as Iowa has a policy that they won't release the season ticket holder list to third parties, and the NIL has requested that list to try to solicit membership.

Admittedly, I don't know what SU's policy is on that. Would you guys be ok with that?

What do we think about our AD asking fans to essentially pay for players? By no means do I blame Wildhack, I am a big fan of him and think he’s doing a great job; he’s working within the landscape that he finds himself in.

But honestly I’d rather just have outright pay for play than this. Season tickets, merchandise etc are all things that I’m more than happy to pay for but straight up payments (or whatever word is more charitable)?

Sorry but I’d much rather invest extra into a host of other matters that are more pressing, 403b, 529 plans, so on and so forth.

I’d have no problem with it.

This is better as NIL initiatives have many 501c3 orgs running them. That means tax deduction.

As tax law changed a couple years ago ending this when buying certain season tickets, NIL is a new way to support charitably versus the old direct way.

I know I’m an outlier on this stuff, but I won’t support NIL. I buy season tickets for two sports, and frequently attend two other sports. I watch games on TV. I attend away games now and then. And I’ve spread support for SU, my alma mater, to my family around the country. I buy SU merchandise, and I won’t avoid buying something because a player gets a cut - for example my wife wanted a #34 Tee shirt - but I’m not buying stuff just to keep a kid enrolled at SU. And I’m certainly not going to be funding a collective. If a kid doesn’t want to play at, and get a degree from SU, so be it.

Not a popular opinion, I know. I don’t like the system. I’m not going to support it.

I don't know if you're an outlier, however, it likely depends upon one's circles they run in, etc. Numerous folks in and around my circles generally think the free tuition, room and board, stipends, etc. afford them a lot already for the most part. Moreover, provides them the platform, opportunities, etc. that they, in all probability, would not have ever had in the first place.

I don't necessarily have an issue with the premise of NIL, etc. However, the vast majority seemingly knows that it's a current facade/front in orchestrating what truly is being done, which is pay for play.

Ad, marketing campaigns, etc. alleging otherwise is somewhat deceitful, not to mention insulting towards the general population, specifically to those whom the message is directly attempting to target.

Did you like the system before?
No. I’ve been pushing for change for a long time. But at least with the previous system I had more hope it could be turned around, or at least have rules enforced. Now we are even farther down the wrong road, and rules aren’t even a consideration.

Surprised it was not available for all SU related fund raising now. OK with me.
