Don't like this at all. Thought the NIT was a nice prize for smaller schools like my alma mater Mercer, when they had a great regular season but just got tripped up in the conference tourney.

If they want to squeeze out the mid majors, just be up front about it and make it a P6 only tournament for the losers that don't make the dance.

While then shrinking the tourney size to go with? If they limit it to just the P5 - have fun watching your ratings tank.

I'm guessing the TV ratings stink for watching 2 unheralded mid majors play in the NIT finals and semi-finals. Even though middle of the pack P6 teams will have a worse record, maybe a .500 record, they are well known teams, usually big schools, that will draw better ratings.

I think ratings stink because it's a meaningless tournament consisting of teams nobody outside of their fanbases care about regardless of conference.
