My team can have a mediocre season, but do just enough to get in (or not do anywhere near enough, but get hot and win the conference tournament and auto bid) and have a shot at winning the national championship. Some teams take awhile to put things together or may have a key player injured who doesn’t become available until February or March and all of a sudden that team is potentially a threat to win despite having what might look like a mediocre regular season.
