Try to stay away but still lurk some, I must admit. IMO it is a fan's job to cheer on his/her team and leave it to others to make negative predictions, especially when not in the "heat of the moment" (ie immediately following a loss). That noted, here are my fears: 1. When you're in the position of being in the vast middle of the pack of college football and play a tough OOC schedule to boot you can't afford a What loss. SU suffered one vs. Maryland, a contention I make based on the venue and the ease with which SU piled up yards but failed miserably in red zone/specials. Can't let that happen. I thought at the time it would come back to bite the team and nothing has happened yet in the interim (ie an offsetting big win in an either/or game) to show me otherwise. 2. Pitt and BC are on the road and each staff knows how to attack SU's D. They will line up with big OLs and backs and patiently blast away at the Orange's D, which is built on speed. Each knows the key to success vs. SU is patience and pounding. Petrino did it in another game I thought SU could win at home but didn't. If you're thinking 7-5 (as I was) and those two critical swing games at home go the other way it is easy to assume that 7-5 becomes 5-7 and no bowl unless you win three of the last four, one on the road, which are also swing games imo. 3. The team's most potentially explosive play-makers on offense imo are mostly rookies, who tend to wear down physically and make mistakes mentally as their first long college season against big, athletic foes grinds on. Those impartial opinions suggest the Orange is in a tough, but not impossible, spot entering the home-stretch. That noted, imo it is up to an impartial observer to point that out and not a fan. I watched the Eagles absolutely give away a victory to Arizona on Sunday and have read a week's worth of Philly writers saying Foles stinks, the secondary stinks and the 5-2 record is deceiving, yet as a fan I'm still pulling for a 14-2 regular season and a ride to the Super Bowl. In other words, for fans it shouldn't be over until it's over. jmo.
