for those fellow ncaa football game owners- hang on to your copies as ea announced next year there will be no game and with all the ncaa lawsuits that issue looks like it will linger on. I am surprised it took so long since c hoops games ceased after 2009

are you freaking kidding me? someone will probably make their own version without the ncaa licensing. shouldnt be too hard

it already got licensed with another branch of the college association just no more ncaa branding

@iansherr
EA has cancelled its plans for a NCAA football game next year, and is evaluating whether to make any more: http://t.co/1k59A5kyS5

@iansherr
EA confirms it and student athletes in O'Bannon case have submitted a settlement agreement with the court.

doubtful- it will be generic and cant use ncaa licensing for logos , etc as that costs a lot- roster sharing will be fair game for player likeness as well. 2k maybe would try to find a loophole but i think you have seen the last of collegiate video games until something changes relative to student athlete compensation.

The EA game is not the big news in this settlement. The CLC is the entity that provides all the names, logos, etc. of the schools to EA and other business in exchange for licensing. Since the CLC is settling this lawsuit, what does this mean for the jerseys and other apparel being sold? If the CLC is admitting to using the student-athlete likeness without permission and compensation, will the same hold true for the Nike/Adidas jerseys? Will other companies be at-risk for lawsuits, and if so, how does that impact $ flowing into Ath Depts?

Any lawyers on the board know if this puts any kind of "Official __ of Athletics" deal in jeopardy?

This is some bad news - I get the college games over Madden. :(

this will be good business for the college sim sites that there are long threads on here about

As much as I support the athletes in this thing, this is unfortunate. NCAA has been better than Madden for years. Hopefully they keep the ability to update rosters open for a while, I'm sure the OperationSports people will keep making fresh rosters for future seasons.

Damn you Ed O'Bannon! Ol' bitter, NBA bust, arthritic knee having, gimp! I only play like 3 games these days, and NCAA was one of them. And now, since his NBA career sucked and he's not as rich as he thought he'd be... I can't run the triple option on the big screen with crystal clear, pristine graphics anymore??

It's ironic, since the first game I can remember really playing (college sports-wise) was NCAA...94? 95? Whatever the first EA college hoops game was, and I admit, I played as UCLA allll the time, so my entrance into college sports video games was through Ed O'Bannon, and now he's the one ending it all.

Coach K? For Sega? That was the first EA college hoops game I remember.

And yeah, when I wasn't being Cuse with Wallace/Moten, I also used UCLA all the time. If I could, I'd go back and bench O'Bannon for JR Henderson!

I remember the first "Bill Walsh's College Football" used town names rather than names of colleges, which was fine since Syracuse was still "Syracuse." Players were just numbers. They were numbers in the early Madden games as well.

Yes! That's the one. Yeah, when I wasn't being Cuse, I should say also. Luke Jackson was legit in that game.

Im with you, i have only purchased madden once. I have bought NCAA since the first year they made it. Even the super nintendo versions

My buddies and i still play coach K. I actually reference that game when we get corner seats in any stadium...we say we got the coach K angle haha.

It sucks cause I love NCAA Football more than Madden, but without the licensing from the conferences the game won't have the same luster. The thing that screwed EA Sports was that players numbers USUALLY matched the actual players likeness and athletic ability and if the freaking NCAA just allowed and offered all of the actual players like a 1k bonus for signing away their likeness for the game would be fine. If some of the players didn't sign then you could just fill those teams rosters with players in different numbers and game identification. However, anyone with a brain knew #12 on Syracuse last year was Ryan Nassib or #15 on Florida years ago was Tim Tebow. I mean the freaking players hometowns and states were usually right if you checked them in the editing. EA deserved to lose this lawsuit because they were taking college football players IP rights and likeness and were profiting. The stupid NCAA is a joke and I hope the players don't just stop after settling with EA Sports and go after and bankrupt the NCAA.

To be honest...its typically the idiots that couldn't make it to the pros that complained in those lawsuits...i.e. damien rhodes, our freaking kicker who will be unnamed..etc Most kids are enthralled to have themselves in a video game.

I read somewhere that the 40 million won in the lawsuit/settlement will be split between 300,000 student-athletes. So unless my calculator is wrong that is 133 bucks a person! Was it really worth it?!

coach k hoops was awesome.. loved breaking the backboard with j-dub almost every game! 2ksports and there college hoops series is the biggest tragedy in all these games going away. ea did decent with ncaa football but 2k killed it with the college hoops series. I will hang on to my copy of ch hoops 2k8 for the necessary "fix" during hoops season for sure
