You can't really say he's wrong about the St. John's loss. And we finished the season so badly, which I thought would completely obliterate the "but they didn't have their head coach" argument.

Who cares? We made it in. Save your Hop speculation until he's actually the HC in a few years. As I've said, who is to say the team wouldnt have done even worse down the stretch with Hop? The narrative of the opinion after JB's return went on for quite some time, and the ending did not completely negate it.

He didn't say St Johns was a bad loss. He said "anyone that loses to St. Johns shouldn't be selected" So, if we went 31-1 with our only loss to St Johns we shouldn't be in? Doug is very talented. He's also a douchebag.. So I guess he's a very talented douchebag. You can't really say he's wrong about the St. John's loss. Ah I see. I do tend to be on the alert for the Hop bashers. Sorry to have misinterpreted your post.I think you misunderstood the intent of my post. It was not about Hop(or Red, or Gerry, or Bernie...Sanders lol), but about BOEHEIM, and folks trying to use the logic that the last 6 games negated the committee boosting our rating due to his absence as they do when star players are hurt. I spoke about this with quotes from the committee chair for days, and some folks chose to argue against it.
Did Barkley have any words of "wisdom" regarding the SU choice? He's usually a real tool too.And actually that statement showed a lack of talent...and understanding, and self control(like me)!
I tried to point out to folks that the NCAA(and a logical thinker) gives more(likely much more!) weight to quality wins than whatever they take away from bad losses, with or without Hop at the wheel. I also said I thought this seasons selections could rise to the level of precedent setting in terms of helping folks(not just here) understand the selection criteria. I'm not sure if others will agree with me on that, but this also helped me remember that I shouldnt necessarily care whether others agree. I guess I have to adjust my own criteria a bit.
And if it upsets Doug, it's just a nice bonus. A 10 seed and a "pick" opening line for a team that many were "certain" was out, including Doug.
Who knows how long we will be celebrating...may as well enjoy this to it's fullest right NOW, and revel in Gottleib's frustration. GO ORANGE!!!! (go home Doug!)

I know I am one of the few on this board that actually likes Doug Gottlieb and thinks he is a very good analyst. He is smug, but he knows his stuff. He has opinions on who deserves to get in, and will back it up with facts.
I used to be on the other side in terms of giving the little guy a chance if they earned the benefit of the doubt (by trying as best they could in terms of scheduling). I probably am on that side to a degree, but I know that is not how the committee does things.
He may be a dick, but that doesn't mean he's wrong.
There are always arguments to be made on both sides. We're not 'right' because we're in, versus Monmouth. We're just IN.
its not so much his opinion, its how and when he voices it. The segment of the show where the teams are first revealed is not the time when you whine and drivel on about "they lost to st johns".
nobody made a comment about any team not deserving to be in during the initial revel aside from that one snippet. it was unprofessional and stunk of an agenda.
btw, he had that line about st johns prepackaged and ready to go. i heard him say it on the radio a few days ago.
The "little guys" should be in Division II or a basketball verision of 1AA so their players could have a chance to win a national championship. That's what divisions are all about.
