Not as upset as others here as I thought expectations were way overblown for this team which I picked to go 6-6. That said, I'd love to see them do much better but I think the combination of poor planning/scheming on O and D, lack of depth at certain key positions and a really tough schedule does not bode well for this team. Some quick thoughts: 1) God help us if Crume goes down. The lack of depth at DT and the inability to clog up the middle consistently is a major concern; 2) I thought Hodge played poorly in the middle consistently overrunning plays and missing tackles. Franklin looked very good and may be the answer long term; 3) Bullough is officially on the clock IMHO. The inability to contain, especially on 3rd down, is the single most disturbing take away for me in this game. Poor tackling and gap control were in large part exploited by the aggressive D scheme which Nova used to its advantage. Why in the world we didn't use a spy on Robertson the entire game is beyond me. Looking ahead, get used to being abused by any team with a mobile QB. 4) We are going to have a bubble screen go for a pick 6 at some point. The play is taking way too long to develop and is not going to work against press coverage. I want to see the number of times this play is called scaled way back. 5) We may need to look at alternatives at center. Miller was getting blown up a lot and that was not D1 talent he was up against. 6) The kicking game is solid. Kudos to Dixon and Norton. 7) Not sure why we didn't try to throw more timing and crossing routes and use the middle of the field more. When we did it, we seemed to have success. I understand the overall philosophy of Cool Kid to try and get a mismatch on the outside and let your athletes run in space but one of the other problems with the screens is that the sideline acts like a 12th defender and forces the play flow back inside. Trying not to read too much into this one and lot of things can be fixed in the next 2 weeks but, I'm much more concerned with the D then the O at this point.
