I figured I would hopefully add some insight to some of these posts: "How are they recruiting?": Penn State has two unique advantages right now that they are trying to leverage. First, HC Bill O'Brien and Assistant HC Stan Hixon both have good NFL experience. It turns out that most prospects are much more interested in playing in the NFL than a bowl game. In fact, the bowl ban has been the least significant of our sanctions, especially in recruiting. The second, and more important (but less often considered) advantage - if you can call it that - is our scholarship reductions. Because PSU is targeting only about half as many kids as most staffs, coaches have been able to spend twice as much time with each prospect. In recruiting, the most important thing is often relationships, and the PSU coaches have been able to build deeper relationships with their targets because they can afford to spend more time with them. As for Beh's position, he was recruited as an OT for PSU. He will be the only OL they take in this class (unless a JUCO can enroll early and count against PSU's class of 2013). As for O'Brien leaving, he has made it clear that if an NFL job opens up and they have a quarterback that he believes can excel in the NFL, he will listen. His problem with the coaching offers he has had (the most prominent of which was actually Jacksonville, which he chose Penn State over) is that he has not felt like he could win with any of their QBs. His dream job is also the Patriots, as his family and his wife's family are from the area. The interesting twist to him moving is that he has a severely disabled son who needs constant care to survive, so moving was apparently difficult for him and his family, and he allegedly does not want to put his son through another move if he can avoid it (a la Chris Petersen at Boise State). Anyways, hope those thoughts answer some questions on this board. I appreciate you all letting me lurk around - I'm a Penn State student but a CFB fan, and I love reading every team's message board. Good luck this year...after week one :)
