I'm not seeing that they're not playing hard. I see a lot of effort. Maybe not 100% consistently, but that's human nature, and true of any team. What i do see is that the effort is too often technically unsound. I see our athletes flying past slow, plodding opponents. I see slow opponents easily driving around us, without feints or trickery—just simple, single moves directly around us. On the other side, i see a slow opponent moving his feet to easily stay in front of our quickest guard. This is all coaching. On offense... Uggh. I wish i could understand how every game thread has us screaming about how there is no offensive scheme, no plays, no motion... and the staff hasn't noticed? We have a guy on the outside, dribbling, trying to beat his man. That's 'Play A.' 'Play B' is a clumsy pick and 'roll' where the roller can't do anything with the ball, and the pick doesn't create enough space for scoring and doesn't initiate peripheral motion, so the ballhandler has no pass options off the dribble. I see 'Play C' is to pass the ball three times around the outside of the 3pt line, and then someone jacks a contested three. 'Play D' is a 'weave' with a center and two guards/wings, where... again, there is no peripheral movement, and it results in a chucked 3. I think that's it. If we see ourselves as 'successful' against a zone, it's not really a matter of actually creating efficient shots. It's just a matter of whether we make the chucks. I guess we did a better job today, but as a matter of scheme and technique, it's not sustainable. This was Level 5 execution. In deference to Spinal Tap, the range is 1 to 11. I think i was fooled by some of our Vegas performance, and then Tenn. But, looking at our roster, i have no idea what we have. I don't see any NBA-level talent. This, after Alex Kline did his 3D-level chess stuff. I can only surmise that players we acquired have taken a step backward as a result of our not having a competent offensive framework. There are flashes. I hope the team is frustrated. I would love it if they held a Players Only Meeting, got together in a ballroom and mapped out some of their own favorite plays from previous teams, and secretly called them during games... Of course, then Red would get the credit and an extension, sooooo... maybe not.
