Hmmmm, do I detect a mild note of sarcasm?must have much more talent then Notre Dame and Arizona St. respectively. The only explanation why they were able to win this weekend!
Lol, I think you know where I stand on this from previous posts. Northwestern even tied the turnover battle 4-4. Imagine if they won the turnover battle 5-1 against ND like we did? Been saying since day one ND would lose at least three games and everyone here was acting like it was a moral victory losing by less then 20 against a top flight team when we turned them over 5 times.Hmmmm, do I detect a mild note of sarcasm?
nw and ore st have vastly more talent on offense then we do.. we dont have single player who would start for ore st on offense at the skill positions.
we are too slow at the key skill positions.. i think people dont realize how much we scheme just to get people into spots. we cant even run the offense we want because we have to scheme everything.. add in the oline injuries and qb play.We have players comparable. Maybe not the 1 or 2 best guys, but absolutely comparable.
Scheme is extremely important. We couldn't outscheme some high school teams in the first half of the year.
Love how people cherry pick a couple of upsets - whoopdeedoo
Starting RT, LG, RG, TE and two QBs have all missed games with injuries. McDonald's scheme was sound he just had no feel for play calling. Lester is handcuffed by injuries. Unfortunately we fans will have to wait 9 months to see how Lester does with a full team.

Clev04 said:The point, which you are over looking is that we lost to ND 31-15 and won the turnover battle 5-1. Northwestern played at ND, tied the turnover battle 4-4 and won by 3 in overtime. They are a team with similar talent as us against a common opponent and we got smoked and they won. It's not even that we lost, it's how we lost.
McDonald was calling plays then. My point was that we won't know too much about Lester until next season. The team was pretty healthy against ND...
The folks on NDNation.com would heartily agree. They weren't too enthused w/Kelly coming into this year and Sat. is being viewed as one of the worst losses ever.Notre Dame ' s coaching left a lot to be desired on Saturday.

thats the excuse given to someone who doesnt look like a star out of the gate.I don't think anyone can say anything definitive about Lester as OC yet.
i'm not over looking anything. transitive property doesn't work. you're cherry picking an upset to prove a point that doesn't work.
We beat Central Michigan who beat Northern Illinois who beat Northwestern who beat Notre Dame.

Ya, our only wins are on the luck of a missed fg to a FCS school, a central Michigan team without its best player, and a wake forest team which has less yards rushing (342 yards)in 10 games then Melvin Gordon had in 3 quarters against Nebraska 408 yds. Good company, why should I expect better.
Ok so you consider personnel missing a valid reason for a team that we have played to lose, but missing personnel is a completely invalid excuse for why we have lost some games. Got it.
Similar talent but not with the same injuries. Transitive properties simply never work in sports because of all important matchups. There is no way tom settle the degree to which injuries | talent | coaching affected the season or even a game. It is simply a matter of opinion - including yours.Hmmmm, im not exactly sure what post you were reading but it couldn't have been mine because I didn't say anything about our losses due to injuries. Could you please point out where I was discussing the games involving the injuries? People were saying a lack of talent prior to injuries were the reason we were losing to "then" superior teams in Maryland and ND; made excuses when there were no injuries of why we were losing. Those excuses have now turned from lack of talent or offensive coordinator issues to injury excuses, but this is not the point for the coach apologists on this board. MY WHOLE POINT OF THIS THREAD, is that those excuses now look silly and downright wrong. Losing to ND 31-15 when you force 5 turnovers is not acceptable and people were righting it off because they appeared to be a National title contender and we played them close!!! Even though the game was really never in doubt and here a NW team is with similar talent to us when we played ND and went into ND and turned the ball over 4 times and still managed to win 43-40.
