Just to change direction a little. After watching the games and seeing senior laden teams do so well, and considering the number of guys leaving early what do people think about this. With the NCAA allowing 5 years to complete your eligibility, why not let kids play 5 years. This would offer the mid-level teams a better chance to compete against the top leagues and advance in the tourney. Coach K said the Mercer guys were playing like men while his team slipped back to playing like kids.

Because you only need 4 years to get a degree?

But they allow 5 years eligibility to play 4 years. And the average time to get a degree has gone up over the years. Also there apparently is a hole in the rules that allow a kid to finish his career at another school without sitting out if he goes someplace that offers a grad degree not offered at his first school. That was a discussion in a previous thread a week or so ago.

Giving 5 years of eligibility would make too much sense for the NCAA. As you mentioned, the average student takes more than 4 years to graduate, so it makes sense if graduation was truly important to the NCAA and institutions.

Can you imagine the "upsets" of upperclassman laden teams could have with the additional experience. Would actually be good competition for younger teams with loads of talent, like the Kentucky-WS game yesterday.

I think this is a fantastic idea, and as such, I believe the cosmos will punish you for your brashness and audacity.
