Makes no attempt to catch a deep ball early and quits running on a deep ball late. Expect more from a senior.

Which plays were those?

Early in the game a long pass bounced in front of him with no real effort to catch it. Late in the game the interception in the middle of the field left the QB's hand just as West stopped running. Both plays were puzzling.

The second one was bad timing as you said, the QB had just released it when he stopped and sat in the open space. The first one I don't remember.

The one I remember was in the 4th quarter Wilson threw a long pass from about the 25- 30 yard line to around the opposite 35-40 yard line. West stopped and Duke's DB intercepted while West watched. Blown route or blown pass? West just stopped and never made a move to even stop the Duke player from catching it. No one else was near the play. Very strange.

Funny he just stops while the db easily runs under it like a punt. The defense hasnt quit yet but the remaining offensive players seemed to have decided to pack it in early.

Saw that too but didn't realize it was West. Was really disappointed by the complete lack of response to the guy covering him intercepting the ball and running the ball back.

FWIW, the PS writers on the twitter said it was a miscommunication right after it happened. I can't see West quitting on a ball when they were still in the game.

Good to know. Why I didn't think it was West originally and obviously I wasn't able to see the whole thing play out.

The DB could see the ball. West had his back to it and turned and "sat" in the open area. He didn't pack in it. That's crazy.

Exactly.

Easier to call a kid a quitter (even though he never has exhibited that in his career) than to cite a communication problem (he's had 2 OC's, and 4 guys throwing him the ball this season)?

Didn't look like he quit to me. Looked like Wilson expected him to come back to the middle of the field then West stopped and broke it off the route, turned and sat in the open area.

What about his reaction after? If a player made an interception on a ball meant for me I would move a little faster than a half jog to get back in the play and try to make a tackle. My 92 year old grandfather whose been dead for 10 years could run faster than that.

he dogged it after the pick. I'm a big fan of him but he did

I have no idea what Wilson was doing with that throw. West clearly didn't expect the ball to be thrown 15 yards inside of his position. Heck he probably didn't even find the ball it was so far inside of West until the defender was in a position to make a play.

Yes dogging it on the int is a thing. But let's be real West was never going to catch that guy anyways. On top of that how often do you see guys give up on an intercepted ball and not hustling the other way (probably 6 of the 11 on every one of them). Plus West is probably in disbelief (like all of us) at just how bad this team has been at the QB position this year and that summed it up.

As to the miscommunication, I'm inclined to believe it was the RS freshman who was banged up and under pressure making the mistake over the senior West who has run that route (and been open) right up the sideline a dozen times in the past 3-4 weeks.

West went left and Wilson threw long. I'm not surprised as these guys haven't worked together as much as Hunt and Long have with West.

As for the first series long pass from Wilson to West it just looked like West got tired or had no extra gear to get it. One play I noticed was once Wilson scrambled right and Ishmael jogged slowly behind the defender as they went right as well. It was like he was following the DB.

Lewis and Wilson had a decent chemistry and you could see they have worked together.
