And we weren’t quite ready for that big stage. We will get there soon.

I’ve come to terms with this loss and now just wish dungey’s recovery to suit up once more vs Boston College and lead us to a bowl win and 10 win season.

We’re every bit as good as of a top 20 team. Notre Dame may be good enough to challenge Bama.

We really lost some big moments in that game where I think we still lose but 25 -17 kinda. Momentum is a huge thing with teams this good. A few bad things and a close game is lost by a big margin.

Think this was a return to earth for the fanbase, players and coaching staff. A nice sobering loss before we beat the everloving smug out of BC and HC mantits

Yep

If we played that way against Bama I would have been disappointed. ND is not Bama.
I feel like half this board is annoyed that the other half is mad we lost...

I don’t think anyone is mad we lost. I’m disappointed we lost.

However, “lost” is an understatement for whatever that was yesterday. ND played great so props to them - They’re better than I thought they were. Even if we played well, we probably lose that game.. but we were a mess in every facet (save the defense being consistently mediocre).

ND is not Bama out here destroying every ranked team they play. There’s a reason analysts questioned them making the CFP even if they went undefeated... Well, until we showed up and allowed them to blow the doors off us in a way they haven’t done to anyone, all year.

When your QB has a 75% completion rate you're gonna be tough to beat. Can you imagine where we would be with that completion percentage? That is near the college record with a couple games left to go. Another freak talent. We have a knack for scheduling them.

Kinda agree...kinda don't. Their receivers were running free all over the field. No question there were a few times we could have gained some momentum. I think that was a big deal, no doubt. But given how open and free their receivers ran, it wasn't going to change much.

That said...3 points in inexcusable.

I agree cause we were in zone most of the time when we have the personnel to play man. Most of their catches were when we had no one near them. Drives me nots. Play man and then pressure qb and force the offense hand. Soft zone to a qb like that kid is dangerous and we would have had to play a perfect game to win. Our offense generally plays to win but our defense plays not to lose which makes no sense.

Ian Book was a 3 star recruit pulled from Northern California by ND.

His other offers were from Boise State, Idaho, UNLV and Washington State.

Ian Book, Oak Ridge, Pro-Style Quarterback

Doesn’t have to be a 5 star to be a freak talent, that’s just an additional kudos to Brian Kelly’s staff and their ability to identify talent. Eric Dungey was barely a 3 star recruit from Oregon whose only P5 offer was from Oregon St late months after he committed to us. He’s a freak talent in my opinion.
