1) If the money shouldn't matter to us fans, why is there a thread pinned to the top of this board asking people to donate to the IPF? (As of this post, there's $9,541 in the Syracusefan.com kitty -- "Here you go, Daryl -- that should cover it.") If money doesn't matter, why tout the TV money we'll be getting from the ACC as a reason not to play at MetLife? 2) The powers that be don't care about how you feel their decisions will affect recruiting. Putting aside the whole "New York's College Team" argument, or the comments made by Marrone on the benefits of playing at Yankee Stadium, here's what Gross said at the time of the MetLife announcement: "Recruiting is really important. To play those games in the New York area, now you hit Northern New Jersey, now you hit Long Island, now you hit New York City, now you hit Pennsylvania, you have exposure that's unrivaled." 3) The ND at MetLife deal was announced in August 2009 -- Syracuse was invited to the ACC in September 2011. The USC game and Notre Dame series are a different kettle of fish -- in part (if I understand correctly) the USC game was switched from the Dome to MetLife. (It's less defensible, but still isn't enough reason in my mind to withhold your support for the team for the other five games.) It also meant only 5 home games. This year, we're playing at MetLife and hosting six games -- can we not do that again in 2014 and 2016? You can poo-poo playing Notre Dame, but they move the needle -- as evidenced by the fury in this thread. And whereas the nexus of our disagreement is whether people who withhold their support from Syracuse because they "move" a marquee game to MetLife are justified (you) or idiots (me), I say that bringing Illinois to the Dome won't get them to ante up for season tickets. And even if Illinois did, do you reasonably expect them to be there for Tulane? These people don't love Syracuse football, they love an event -- and they can't be who you let control decisions about the well-being of your football program.
