I don't want to take this thread off on any more of a diversion, so I will try to restrain myself and won't give this the more comprehensive answer it deserves. Too keep it simple - this has nothing to do with any differences in policies between Notre Dame and Syracuse. They are both subject to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which outlines a school's responsibilities to respond promptly and effectively to sexual violence against students, as well as the Clery Act, which mandates the collection and distribution of crime statistics on campus. This has everything to do with Notre Dame not following established policies and even basic good standards of police work. Let me ask you directly - are you ok with the way Notre Dame handled the Lizzy Seeberg case? You are eager to draw equivalencies with other schools, Syracuse in this case. I am unaware of any cases of a woman accusing a Syracuse player of rape and then seeing the investigation interfered with and covered up. Should that ever happen, I can assure you I would not let my extreme love and fandom of all things Syracuse cause me to look the other way. Put another way, if Jameis Winston was the QB at Syracuse I would be embarrassed and ashamed of the University. Of course, other schools do get it right. UT recently suspended 2 players involved in a sexual assault (and the investigation was not interfered with). Oklahoma suspended Frank Shannon, even after police declined to prosecute, when their (ALERT ALERT) internal Title IX investigation found him guilty. Bottom line - I will give credit where credit is due. Notre Dame absolutely seems to take academic fraud seriously, and they should be applauded for that. However, I do take umbrage at this notion that Notre Dame is a cut above, morally, because of this attention to academic fraud. In fact, the willingness to suspend players for academic fraud but the lack of willingness to take seriously the allegations of sexual assault points to a really jacked up system of values.
