for future football games. It appears that Notre Dame is laying ground work to make sure as they stay independent that they add national games to schedule. Now Army isnt a good football team but it sure has the brand...so now Notre Dame has Navy and getting Army...interesting strategy to stay independent.
May not be news ACC or other conferences want to hear. Looks like Notre Dame is staying with BE for other sports but if BE collapses, does ACC take ND for sports other than football--I hear from source at NCstate small chance.

ND playing Army is a natural fit. If I were Swofford, there is no way I would accept ND's other sports. I understand the desire to play nice with ND on the chance that they will one day sign up. But that strategy has never worked for the BE, and it never will. ND will move into a conference for football when, and ONLY when, they have to. Not one second before. Be friendly. Keep an open line of communication with them. Don't discourage your teams from scheduling them here and there. But don't take them as a partial anything. And beat them each and every time you get the opportunity.

Doesn't have anything to do with staying indy. It's mostly because Notre Dame has committed to dumbing down their schedule so they can pad wins and try to put themselves in the discussion.

In order to take Army they are protecting themselves if a rival has conference obligations. yes they are trying for an easier schedule; but they could get an easier schedule playing Duke etc. Remember, Notre Dame as independent has no schedule they must meet year in and year out. This is simply a get a team that they can play if other rivals become booked in conference...

I hope ND stays independent.

Some traditions should be preserved - and I don't want them in the ACC anyway.

I don't know where this idea of Notre Dame to the ACC came from, but it has no grounding in reality.

If they went anywhere, it'd be the Big Ten, and they're not going anywhere.

Annual games:
USC
Stanford
Boston College
Navy
Michigan
Michigan State
Army
Pittsburgh

That's 8 annual games, basically a conference schedule. They have no problem scheduling.

And since the Irish play Purdue on a regular basis, going to the Big Ten would of course be the easiest and most logical move.

Don't tell that to the "Notre Dame to the ACC" theorists on here who apparently have convinced themselves that the ACC is the only logical place for ND.

You can talk yourself into anything if you try hard enough. I once bought a Porsche using logic like "easier to park" and "good for getting into moving traffic from a ramp".

So I guess this means that Army to the Big 12 is about to happen?

Actually the Porsche you bought is very good for moving into traffic from a ramp.

Excellent purchase!

Not exactly the point I was trying to make ... that when you want something bad enough you can be very creative concocting reasons in selling yourself.

The 911 was something I always wanted. So as soon as I could afford one, I got it.

But the things it did well were things you don't need unless you commute every day through the Black Forest to Stuttgart. It was temperamental and very expensive to maintain. When the white-coated mechanic came out from the back of the shop to explain to you just what the problem was and how much it was going to cost to fix it, it was always exciting. And when he started with "ze parts may have to be ordered from ze old country", you knew you were in trouble.

I'm reminded about that old saying about boat ownership. The two best days are the day you buy it and the day you sell it.

But that sucker could really eat up curvy, hilly country roads

It also attracted State Police like magnets attract iron filings.
