I was with you until the last two sentences. Nova is probably on par with the bottom half of the ACC Atlantic Division and Patterson is exactly the type of QB that does well against our high-risk blitzing defense. The rate of change may not be as great as we might imagine. We will know when we host Maryland. From what we have seen so far from this staff, game management seems to consist of a low risk offensive strategy and a blitzing high risk defensive strategy. We are a one size fits all defense and a one-tick pony offense. We seem to do it every game regardless of the team we are playing. I understood that last year considering the circumstances. However, this year was supposed to be different. The offense was to be opened up. I like our aggressive D but the game planning seems lacking again to start the season. I think we really need to write-off this game on offense because of Hunt's meltdown. We were actually driving when the incident occurred and I think we would have had a different outcome had Hunt not been ejected. The TOP would not have given Nova an extra quarter of play on offense and one less for us. This would have made a big difference for the D. I give McDonald a pass on this one - he handled Wilson pretty well. Bullough is another matter. Last year's three blowouts still weigh on my mind and his play calling Friday night brought back bad memories. His D has not really done well against a good team yet. Maybe we don't have the horses on D and it is not his fault - I am open to being convinced otherwise but for now, the best I can get to is the jury is still out. Here is my big concern. I have always avoided hiring friends and relatives - because it is impossible to fire relatives and very hard to fire friends. It is also easier to fire someone you didn't hire than one you did. Shafer's big test as HC will be when it is time to fire somebody. that time will surely come.
