Obviously, we've lost some recruiting battles for a handful of high profile (4 and 5 star) NYC players over the last few years.

Prior to Marrone's arrival, I didn't follow NYC recruiting as close as some on this board. Help me out here...give me a list of names of high profile NYC recruits that were successful in college. I know Easley has been decent but I wouldn't trade him for Jay Bromley. Are there any others?

Maybe this NYC thingy is a lot to do about nothing other than perception. Then again I could be very wrong.

Totally agree. Highly rated prospects out of NYC have a major overblown opinion of themselves. Jay Harvey out of Alabama is rated as a 2 star and I think Syracuse fans are going to be surprised at how ready he is to contribute at a D1 level. That's where we should build a new base , Birmingham. The SEC can only take about 350 players a year , and many of those teams recruit nationally. That leaves many high level players who only get recruited by lower level conferences. Which is why, when he wasn't offered at an SEC school his family thought he should stay close to home at S Alabma or W Kentucky. No big advantage to go to an American conference school or CUSA. But when Syracuse offered they could see the advantage of ACC and a great university education.

Since Marrone started and focused on NYC/LI as a recruiting strategy, there are some players that definitely could have contributed at SU.

2009:
Aboushi OL - Virginia (believe he was a 3 year starter and all ACC)
Obeng-Agyapong- DB (starting DB for PSU who had big game in Meadowlands against SU)

2010:
Easley DL - Florida
McCombs RB- (All Big East player)
Chris Brathwaite DL - Virginia

2011:
Williams LB - Notre Dame (would have been a DE at SU)
Cajuste WR/TE - Stanford

2012:
Sean Karl OL- Virginia (too early to tell)

2013:
Edwards RB - Miami
Stanback RB - UCF (this may not be a miss, i'm not sure he would have been admitted at SU)
Too early to tell on some other guys

You wouldn't trade easley for bromley? Don't get me wrong, I love Brom as a player but take it easy haha.

This isn't an argument in favor of giving up on recruiting New York. However, if this board wants Syracuse to begin hauling in a regular catch of 4-star athletes (and an occasional 5-star) New York State/NYC isn't going to be the place to focus on. Most 4-star + recruits are found south of the 39th parallel. Recruiting services focus their efforts down there because that's where football is religion and that's where fans will gladly fork over money to subscribe to recruiting websites, etc. So looking at 2015, for example, you have Tyrone Wheatley and...nobody else...listed as a Rivals 250 prospect. And over at the Scout 300 you have...Tyrone Wheatley. There will be more 4-stars in the future, of course, and some of the current 4-stars will be bumped up a notch. When they verbal to Bama or Texas or FSU...or even Ole Miss. All I'm saying is I wouldn't expend too much energy worrying about missing out on a top recruit from the Boroughs.
