I apologize if this has already been covered, but I always greatly enjoyed the NYS recruiting previews done by Tomcat and the other experts regarding the in state kids for the following season. How does the 2013 class look right now? is it expected to be a deep year in state? It seems like there's more early buzz on NYS kids already this year with several kids already receiving offers a opposed to prior seasons - but maybe that's just that they're getting more coverage/discussion this time around?

How does NYS as a whole look, and how does the NYC/LI area where SU is having the most success recently look? Western NY (including Roch)?

Thanks in advance for any info.

A week or two ago, a downstate QB with an offer from Buffalo was discussed. I believe Tomcat said he was being considered a Top-20 prospect in the state because of a lone, low D-IA offer.

So, I think this is a somewhat weak year.

That said, there's a high end OL recruit out of Rochester (Alex Officer) that seems to be one of the important targets in the next class.

There's a burner from Brooklyn (Laray Smith) that many on this board have been drooling over.

There's a pocket QB (Chris Laviano) from Hicksville that has long-held a Rutgers offer.

And apparently JUCO DT Wayne Williams has received an offer after finally getting his academics in order.

These are the guys off the top of my head. Obviously, others can add to the list.

I'll add something to this list- Capt. Tuttle or other B'ville people- Is Rouse still getting the attention he was a year ago?

thanks LeMoyne

even in deep years I don't think NYS sends much more than 20 kids to D1A programs. It's still very early in the recruiting cycle, so if a kid already has a 1A offer, even from a lower tier program I don't see a problem with labeling him a likely top 20 player and don't necessarily think it means the NYS class is weak this year. SU just offered a DE from Brooklyn that didn't even have a UB offer yet - so he just went from being a kid I had never heard of to being a top 20 NYS prospect - maybe even top 10.

This is why I always love the Tomcat NYS talent analysis - because when I hear that SU or some other school offered a NYS player I can check back and see what the perception was at the beginning of the year before all of the offers started going out. See what the buzz was before all the shools did their evaluations and started making offers. Was how I had already heard of Poncho Barnwell and Omari Palmer last year before they verballed.

good news about WW - somehow I missed any discussion of him having his grades in order and being a part of next years class - really hope he ends up at SU as was once deemed likely upon qualifying

I will write something up on the NY kids soon. Should have something up in the next 2 weeks. Will probably be the usual multi part series. Might be the first time we use the new stories feature of the board.

That would be great to keep that list you do every year in the additional content drop down, especially if you are going to put a lot of insight in the "story" you write up.

How many of the New York State's top 15 High School players does Cuse land this year? Do we even offer ?
