Ok guys...fill me in. Why has OCC become the best JUCO program in Lax? Why not Nassau? Wasn't Herkimer good at one time? Why not one of the MD JUCOs?

Upstate talent, coaching, recruiting, connection to Canada/Six Nations. It just hasn't died, when i was there from 06 to fall 08, I met a lot of the players, they came from all over. Knew a kid that came from Cali even.

They are killing it with the recruits who cant make a Div 1 grades and most importantly the native american players. The amount of Indian talent that has played there the last 5-8 years is absolutely ridiculous. You dont hear about it because most dont make it to a Div 1 school like Cody or Sid Smith but the amount of talent they have is crazy good. Ask Woody or one of the other guys familiar with the native players to do a quick list of players from six nations the last decade who played at OCC, its a whos who of 5 star talent.

Do they have an Iroquois scholarship program like SU?

both Herkimer and Nassua both had their runs and my brother has a ring from Herkimer in the mid 80's.

What it comes down to is

A.) COACHING

B.) close proximity to the reservation(Onondaga) and Syracuse which gives out full schoolies to native americans. Playing in front of family and friends is a top priority for them. The bragging on the res.is second to none

C.) It's hot and it's now a dynasty.

My wife teaches up there and has not heard of specific programs for natives.

Like JeremyCuse said many of the Native players at OCC are from Six Nations (St. Catherine's/Hamilton area of Ontario CN) or Askwasane (North Country/Massena area), not Onondaga. There are some, but the top talent had been from other reservations. I think talent gets more talent and Coach Wilber and his staff work harder to get talent. All those players from Six Nations drive right by Genesee and Monroe CC for a reason.

Also, don't always assume money is an issue with the players coming off Six Nations or St Regis. The Native Scholarship program is awesome, but some of these kids don't need it.

TRUE...but many from the six nations have relatives on the Onondaga reservation and vice versa.

my grandmother's mother was from Askwasane reservation. My great uncle was considered the first white man to play for a reservation team. The photos were something else

Retro, without a doubt. A few of the guys from my era played at Lafayette and now live on Six Nations reservation. It just seems less Onondaga players from Lafayette and Corcoran are heading to OcC and there are more guys from the other two areas.
