During our game, an announcer said that Dion is the only player who has not a single start in two years, but has 600 plus points over that stretch.

Could not have happened without JB's loyalty program.

Great post, man. Completely agree that Dion should be a starting. So should MCW. Triche and Scoop are scrubs who would be lucky to see 10 minutes a game at most power conference schools. Lucky for them JB buried Mookie and Cooney this season too.

"Scoop's a scrub."

What's pretty clear about that statement is that some of our fan base still just doesn't have a clue.

Cooney... sometimes, when you have lots of talent and are deep, you redshirt players to keep the cupboards stacked.

I second that...

Also, I think Mookie could have done better if he played for Coach Hillsman...

I am 99 and 44/100 percent sure that BR549 br801 was being sarcastic there

And 1 like served up for a Blues Brothers reference.

Notice I just made the observation about JB's loyalty to his starting line-up -- didn't suggest any change.
Scoop is one of my favorite players. Very underrated by Orange fans. Definitely deserves his minutes.
What JB has done with his starting line-up is unique and worth noting. Got Rak in the mix with cameo appearances -- probably forced him to develop in practice. CJ didn't start, but got tons of minutes. Dion deserved to start over BT (most coaches would have made that change when we got off to slow starts), but JB stuck with BT and has kept all 3 veteran guards productive and engaged. Turns out we have 8 guys who rotate into the game and contribute.

In the last couple of years JB has had a different approach to naming starters. I think since the '09-'10 season. He started the twin towers and then would pull one quickly. Also started BT over Scoop when it looked like Scoop had a little more to offer. Next year the Fab starts, even when he was horrible. And then this year the Rak starts and to some degree the BT starts. I have generally liked the change, it gets more players involved. As long as the good players who are on the bench can buy into the mantra, "it's not who starts but who finishes".

So CJ finally got himself disqualified from that list and lost his game. Don't think we'll see Dion start any time soon.

Scoop and Triche are scrubs? Wow. Could not disagree with this more.

I thought that would be obvious. Pretty disappointing. Sorry for getting people riled up.

You didn't say all that in the OP. You merely mentioned Dion's production as a bench player and said it "could not have happened without JB's loyalty program." Perhaps you really intended it to be a compliment.

FWIW, I agree that the way JB has handled the starting line-up recently is a good thing and has (and will) pay dividends for guys like Melo and Rak.

The rotation in 2009-10 made a lot of sense. Start the two big guys together, after 4 or 5 minutes rotate RJ out for Kris, after 4 or 5 more minutes bring RJ back for AO. Repeat as necessary to keep the big guys fresh and out of foul troubles.
The rotations the past two seasons have been unique in starting a frosh (Fab last year; Rak this year) who gets pulled every game, after a cameo start. Can't recall JB doing that in other years; haven't seen it with other coaches in the Big East.

I suspect other coaches have used a spark-plug guard or shooter off the bench (someone arguably better than one of the starters) -- maybe in cases like 2009-10 or last year when the 6th man (Scoop or Dion) was not plainly better than a starter.

But a second team All-big east guard (Dion this year) not getting any starts? Says a lot about JB. Loyalty, staying with what works, finding a way to keep 3 veteran guards all engaged. Definitely an approach to patent.
