According to Bud, Cuse is up to 50-1 to win NC, up from 150-1 a month ago. Way to go team! Another month from now, who knows, maybe at least 25-1. What bothers me is that UConn is ahead of us at 40-1 (must be a misprint), although interesting to see that ND and Pitt are only 150-1, down from 100-1. They're only numbers, but hey what the heck. Thoughts?

I am encouraged the team has been able to grind out 2 close games. The VT game in particular was an example of "stealing" a victory from the jaws of defeat.

I'll be more encouraged to see dominant performance against poor teams and solid victories against good teams. I don't want to fall into the February swoon where the results are close wins or convincing losses. If 'Cuse can kick it up a notch, I'll be encouraged about the prospects of a run into the 2nd weekend of the tourney.

Right now, I see SU as a dangerous 10-12 seed, but I'm not convinced we can consistently string consecutive wining performances against tournament caliber teams.

25-1 were Florida's odds just before winning the national championship in 2006.
I remember because I bet them...looking for a strong long shot that could win it all.

Winning the NC takes a six game winning streak.
Can this SU team do it?
Let's worry about making the tournament first.

GO ORANGE!

We just have to get into the tournament. This team has a way of playing really well in big games on neutral courts.

Sensing how the tourney could be wacky, I have loaded up on some long odds during the year while teams were improving and before the odds possibly jump (bet365 updates odds once a week and opens the odds a few times during the week without updates) .. with the odds improving I can cash out on some profits. None of these bets are large -- less than $200 total invested across the teams below.

Virginia 20-1
Iowa 30-1
Wichita St 50-1
Texas AM 50-1
West Virginia 60-1
Oregon 66-1
Syracuse 150-1
Seton Hall 750-1 (could only bet a few bucks)

The odds on some of these teams are now better, but as I said I got them when they seemed like they could get better.
