So, I have this good friend that I used to coach youth football with, particularly his oldest son and his youngest son. Well, his oldest son plays for Houston Baptist University. They are three year program in FCS. Play in the Southland with Sam Houston St., Steven Austin and some other decent FCS schools. Well, I went to their first two home games and he proceeds to tell me their upcoming schedule, which includes a Homecoming Game against College of Faith. It didn't click in my head those couple weeks ago, but Friday night as I was watching a game or two on TV, it hit me like a ton of bricks: They were the team that Davidson beat a couple years ago that ended their 3-year losing streak. I couldn't decide which was worst: their play or their neon green uniforms: I remember also reading some stories on how this "school" operates. All classes are done online, there is no campus. Recruits send an email to the guy who runs the college, he invites them to his house and talks up the school. Many of these kids are homeless or with no prospects outside of this "school". Unfortunately, my guess is that he pockets all of the money. Lastly, I'm not sure what's to gain from playing these guys. They are not considered a "countable" game per NCAA rules. So, it's like a glorified scrimmage, against a team that some of the top HS teams could beat. It's sad, if it wasn't so pathetic. Edit: I posted this before reading the article. Looks like this is another College of Faith, this one out of Arkansas. But I'm guessing tied to the same one out of Memphis. They guy who runs the school also has a university in Florida called Faith University. The college and university play a "championship" game at the end of the year. At least one of them gets a win.
