I keep Marrone. No brainer. This program was dead and buried. Grob had killed it. Marrone has resuscitated and stabilized this program. I know most of you can't get beyond 5-2 to 5-7. That's fine. But your alternatives reek of Fantasy Land. Les Miles, Nick Saban & Urban Meyer ain't walking through that door. What would be walking out the door is yet another buyout which we can scarcely afford. And what would be walking in through the door would be the next hot young commodity who has experienced a sprinkling of success or a lifelong assistant with no head coaching experience. Turner Gill, anyone? How is he doing these days? Or, for those of you who are paying attention, and I know at least some of you are, Skip Holtz was, GASP, 5-7 and 1-6 a year after going 8-5 and starting this season with a road win at Notre Dame. And remember how much success we enjoyed the last time we hired a lifelong assistant? What does walk through door, if they do have success, will simply be around long enough to wing enough games to get their next gig. And then it is back to square one. I think that, if Marrone is successful here, he is a lifer. And that is a huge reason to keep him around and give him a lot of rope. Successful lifers become institutions which makes maintaining a successful program a helluva lot easier. Like it or not, unless we have the right individual in place, we are a stepping stone program and not a destination. And that means that you either hire the wrong guy and you blow yourself up or you have to keep hiring the right guy every few years. That is not easy to do. So, I'll keep Marrone and I'll take the long view. Thank you very much. BTW, I'm not sure that 1.5MM is going to cover what you'll need to spend to bring in someone who is guaranteed to take this program to the promised land. You'll probably need to add a zero.
