I heard SS say someone messed up.. It wasnt until i rewatched it last night i realized just how badly SU messed up that play. Su ran 2 guys wide on each end only the outside 2 being eligible since all 7 guys were on the line. maryland covered the 2 ends and rushed 7 up the middle overwhelming the play.

How can that not be a site adjustment to have the tackles come inside , or the coaches not calling a TO, or the punter not just letting the clock run out. anything but punting.

if the ST coaches were really thinking they would have a site adjustment for the shield to step up to the line, the tackle step back and now you have 2 eligible wrs with one cover guy.

did this ever get discussed in a paper story this week?

Or was Dixon too tired from running on the field to make a good throw Milly?

Special Teams should be its own topic, if it wasn't already, so much to keep up with around here. They were very special.

Punt block was the worst. 25 yard FG miss was the worst. Early squib kick that setup MD up on the 40 for their first drive was the worst. KO return blocking is not good. Estime doesn't know how to stand on the 10 yard line and then pretend your going to catch the ball. MD faked us out on that. Estime backs up to the goal line and either catches it, or decides not to catch it but doesn't get out of the way. That's the basics.

Cole Murphy's heroics couldn't offset all of that.

you're the only one who thinks it's ridiculous that fatigue matters to throwing mechanics

nope never questioned the issue that it could be a problem.. Hunt has terrible mechanics as it is.. I am of the camp he was sick since he was having breathing issues from the first play of the game.

All I know is that I could only find one bad throw in the first half after a run even though he had several chances. drops were the bigger issue . dont know of the second half it was really an issue and since we hardly moved the ball maybe it was. if we dont drop the ball 4 times we probably score at least 2 more tds the first half alone. get rid of the stupid Int and we are up 10 pts which would have made more sense with how the game actually was played on the field.

We really need to invest in a legit ST coach this offseason. It's been way too long being all-around horrible.
If you're going to float this you have to mention which current coach will be replaced to make room!

I also thought Dixon took a half an hour to get the punt off. he seemed pretty nonchalant about the rush.
I noticed this while the play was going on. He got away with it on his first punt. Long had that problem early in his career as well and they drilled it into him that he only had something like 2.3 seconds from the start of the snap to get the punt away. Getting off the punt quickly needs to be practiced. It's as simple as a student manager holding a stopwatch and timing how long it takes.

I don't think it's a universal rule like that. The rugby style kickers (like Dixon) routinely jog a few steps to the side before kicking, so I don't think it's nonchalance. They do it to allow the defenders time to get down to cover. He's basically doing what he's coached to do. In this situation, however, he definitely needs to recognize that pressure and kick it quicker.

if you see 7 rushers and 3 blockers i would hope some warning bells would go off. im pretty sure it will if they do it again. they would have been better to send a 12th guy on the field and take the substitution penalty and save a TO. better yet have a sub whose only job is to run on the field when he counts too many rushers or not enough corners. I'm sure they have a couple kids who can count, since the coaches dont seem to be able too.

these seems to be a theme, doesn't it?

You would think between the coaches there would be some type of safety mechanism built in for something like that to get a time out called

Dixon hasn't really rugby punted since the very beginning. He did once against Maryland, the punt following the blocked punt but for the most part he punts regularly. But he has always had an extremely slow get off. Don't know for a fact, but if you timed it, I believe he would grade in the worst 25% of all punters in get off time (obviously not calling him a bad punter, very good when he gets it off, he just needs to work on getting it off faster). He has had countless punts almost blocked by just one guy on non-block attempts. Its very slow.

i think the shield by design gets less punts blocked but more that seem closer. you let guys get to the 2nd level on every play.

i'd agree there was a certain nonchalance to his delivery. now that he's had one knocked back we'll see how it affects his motion.
