I seem to recall that we've had a ton of visitors on campus for the last couple home games.

Shouldn't we be expecting a few new commitments?

I saw that the coaches were flying all over the country over the bye weekend.

Who are our next 3 to 5 prospects likely to commit?

It seems like we only have one scholarship open at the moment, according to a past thread. Now with the rules that student-athletes must wait until December to transfer. The staff might wait until the season ends to see the dominos fall.

From recent offers, it seems like the staff is trying to flip some prospects for 2023. it may be one of them who will flip before the season ends. But right now, it seems to be very quiet.

One thing to remember is that many of those game day visitors were from the 2024, and 2025 classes. So maybe one of those 2024 prospects might commit early.

We will have to wait and see.

I'm not so sure that's correct. I've read that we have 9 commits and 16 open spots for this class. I'm often wrong, but that's what I remember reading.

We don't have that many open slots left as of now. Maybe things play out where we can added five, but as of now things are tight.

Most visitors have been '24, '25, '26 kids.

'24 could be a very very good year for us the way things are shaping up.

The staff isn’t going to refuse commitments on prospects they’re heavily recruiting (like Betrand or Norman). Yes we technically only have 1 spot but the real number is probably 4-5 at least. There will be attrition and they will proactively account for that.

I would like to flip some of these Rutgers commits now that their OC has been fired.

Ja'Sire Peterson seems to be good.
They also have a 6 foot 8 ATH committed from upstate NY. My eyes lit up when I saw 6 foot 8.

I'll say Naquil Betrans, Will Norman and Savior Kariem
Now that’s a trio that we should be recruiting and signing as a top 20 team.

Do you realize out of the uber talent rich states of Florida and Texas, there is only one ranked team ahead of us.

In 2022 there were 14 kids from FL in 247s top 100. The top 6 are playing outside the state and 10/14 total.

That isn't helping those programs losing so many top kids.

Thank you. I'm glad someone reads my threads. ;)

And you are......????

Is it true that the 23 recruiting class is really poor? I heard on the Locked on Syracuse podcast that they are currently ranked at #80 or something. Not sure if that is true.

it isn't poor, it is ranked low because we have very few commits, mainly because we won't have many open scholarships next year, even with the inevitable early departures/transfers. they will be saving some scholarships for transfers as well, of course

Rankings factor in number of commitments, so with a small class we will not be able to rank high.

As an example, Miami (OH) is ranked slightly higher than us around #75 but they have 18 commits to our 9 commits, so the rankings are going to be skewed. I do believe we have a good class with a few more spots to bring in some more quality recruits.

David watch the film for Sellers, Perry, Goddard and Daniels. Those 4 are really, really, really good players. Perry is a Senior in high school and has the frame of an NFL player already. Words like brick schlitz house will come to mind. He is on the Dline. Sellers accounted for 8 TDs in the first half of his last game. Let me repeat that...8 friggin TDs in the first half. He plays QB. Goddard has the size and skills at LB to see reps year 1 here at Syracuse. Daniels is a player at RB. Our class is small but there are some really good guys in it. Those are just some of them.

Thanks for this, I’m done with that podcast. They’re constantly negative towards our football program.

There are a few things at play here:

1) We're going to have a smaller class this year anyway due to the sheer number of underclassmen on the roster. Recruiting websites base their class rankings on a formula that factors in both number of recruits and quality of recruits. So you're going to see some skewing based on that alone dependent on which schools are looking for a full compliment of HS recruits in their class and which aren't.

2) The transfer portal - this has really modified my outlook on recruiting classes especially at this point. We've done quite well recently in recruiting former 4 star, top 250/top 300 type recruits out of the portal later in the cycle, and I suspect that will continue to be part of our strategy moving forward.

3) Recruiting ranking bias - unless we are chasing already established recruits (multiple offers from other P5 schools) our recruits really don't get much attention. And rarely are they re-calibrated in ranking based on how they have progressed their senior seasons. There just isn't much incentive for the recruiting sites to really give a crap because we don't have a high subscriber base and at both of the major sites (Rivals and 247) there isn't a single Syracuse oriented recruiting specialist that has any input into the rankings. It's a subjective process at best and we know first hand the impact that having a recruiting analyst with a relationship to your program has on rankings.
