Let's just say, for a moment, the Pac-12 goes forward with a 16-team expansion plan that doesn't include Texas (and Larry Scott said yesterday there are actually combinations they're willing to take without Texas involved). We can assume the SEC might well act to go to 16 teams as well. They'll inevitably take 1-3 teams from the ACC/Big East. The ACC, meanwhile, will take a proactive approach to get to 16 and might need to take as many as 5-6 Big East teams.

If the Big Ten needs to contribute to the weakening/destruction of the Big East (in order to get Notre Dame and/or Texas), they could take Rutgers or take Maryland which would have an indirect impact on the Big East as it's another team the ACC would have to target.

Point is... the math in this whole process almost guarantees the Big East is going to get raided somehow, some way. It might survive as a whole different conference, but it's going to get raided.
