Then again, I personally have seen a situation where a girl came at a big dude, mostly unprovoked. (He did say something impolite. He thought it was a compliment. The girl really didn’t.)

She was scratching, slapping and punching him. He did nothing at all, until she got him bleeding with a big scratch on his arm. He pushed her away, and we got out of there.  She immediately called 911. We decided it would be worse to leave, so it was a long five minutes wondering what was going to happen. Just the week before, a different friend of mine got choked by cops who accused him of having drugs in his mouth.

I hate to say this, but I am very glad the first cop on the scene was a black guy, or my buddy might have been in big trouble. It was the 90’s, before cell phones. It was our word against her and her friend’s word.

It could have been ugly. He was lucky she had blood in her nails when the cop looked at her hands. A different officer might have used his taser on my friend and asked questions later. Once the taser comes out, the cop is in CYA mode and my buddy could have been railroaded.

I always give more benefit of the doubt to people accused because of that. Especially black men.
