Presuming that N.B.A in NY Timesese is the same thing as NBA, Pearl's NBA career really doesn't fit.

George Vescey probably has the right 5 (if you rate Connie Hawkins on ability rather than what he actually did in the NBA given that he didn't play an NBA game until he was 27):
Cousy, King, Jabbar, Hawkins and Cunningham...although it's hard to ignore Nate Archibald.
