RT @ChadSimmons_ #OleMiss coach called about Central Gwinnett (GA) RB George Morris this morning. Rebels likely to offer him in January.

Sweet
What am I missing here? Why is this "Sweet"?
It seems to me that the competition for Morris just got stiffer, especially since it's a southern school offering a kid from Georgia.

Ole Miss blows. So do we. But they blow harder.

Not sure what positions they will actually end up playing but looks like they have 4 RB commits already.

I think its a recruiting dead period...Are they able to make offers during dead period?

November 27, 2011, through January 28, 2012 — Contact Period (except for the following periods listed below).
December 18 through January 8th — special considerations for JuCo prospects (see official NCAA Calendar).
December 19 — January 3 — Dead Period (see exceptions listed on NCAA PDF).
January 8 — Quiet Period.
January 9 — January 12 — Dead Period (see exceptions listed on NCAA PDF).
January 29 — Quiet Period.

3rd through 8th and 12th through 29th look ok.

So they can't actually make an offer until January 12 or so? Am I reading that right?

That's my take away from it but then again i never had to pass the recruiting test.

I'm sure they all do it, but slick way to make an offer without making an offer...call the coach and say we are going to make an offer so don't commit somewhere else

The thing is, if recruiting and the talent base is going to get better, we are going to have to start winning some of these battles, not saying taking on Bama and LSU but yes schools like Ole Miss, GT, Mid level Big 10 schools in Michigan,ACC Schools, etc. You can't back door your way in all the time. Good lord people, you have to compete to get better, plain and simple. Guns -ing up! ( Case closed, exactly my point)

Like this Whitehurst kid, let him take all the trips he wants, at the end its the coaches JOB yes JOB to get kids to come here

Based on the date range above, and then we have another thread stating Morris committed to us, I'm a bit confused. Did he commit previously and now its official? If we're in a dead period how can he commit?

I believe he can contact coaches but they can't contact him. Someone correct me if i'm off on that.

To me, this isn't a big deal.

If you're the Syracuse coaching staff, you remind the young man that SU runs the ball, while Hugh Freeze is a spread offense guy.
