No one is discussing the on side kick to open the second half. “Only” down three scores at that point. Please discuss.

It was a poorly executed attempt and gave FSU great field position. I understand tge why but the failed attempt helped The Noles!

God forbid we start losing the field position battle when we're already down to a much better team

Another all time terrible decision by Dino. Your offense spent the whole first half in terrible field position. Your defense is already gassed and has been slogging out out all first half because of O's 3-and-outs.

I asked in another thread if SU has ever recovered an on-sides kick in the Dino era, because I cannot remember one, and in fact, they've all been horribly executed with basically no chance of coming close to working.

So you take a gamble on a play with really bad odds, that if it fails gives FSU yet another short field and the likelihood of putting the game out of reach. Of course it failed, and the game was over.

This was a bad decision. And if it worked, I still say it was a bad decision.

I didn’t mind the call but the execution of it (slow kick, blocking of any FSU player, etc) was really poor. Unfortunately consistent with the rest of the night.

Had no problem with it. I was actually disappointed we didn’t recover it. From my view it looked like it took a perfect bounce and we should’ve gotten it.

Can someone explain to me though why FSU didn’t change sides in the 2nd half. They went towards the same endzone in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

We also won the coin toss and deferred.

And let's be honest, not recovering it had no bearing on the outcome of the game.

If your defense is gassed, all the more reason to try to keep the ball.

If you don't get the onside kick, they at least don't have to get more gassed getting run over for 80 yards.

i want to ask who your favorite NFL team is, I have a guess

I think the ref misspoke. and we lost the coin toss, fsu deferred and we of course took the ball

I was good with the onside kick choice as our defense was struggling to slow down FSU, the execution wasnt there

I liked the onside kick. There are many ways to play football. I like when we chose to play aggressive.

I disagree. Making FSU have to earn more yards gives your defense more chance to get them off the field without scoring.

Of course, I'm delusional enough to think that if Shrader couldn't run or throw accurately (which he couldn't) for the whole first half that SU would bring in a different QB and try to score more than 3 points in the game.

BFD.

They got the ball 17 yards closer to the end zone.

That's like a pass interference and an offsides.

And I seriously doubt the defense was already gassed just from running out of the locker room after halftime.

I don't understand your math. FSU got the ball on the SU 42. A kickoff into the endzone puts the ball on the FSU 25.

That's 33 yard difference. Nominally that's 3 1st down pick ups needed just to make up the difference.

Math aside, using your logic, why don't teams do an on sides kick on every kick off, since it doesn't have a significant impact?

I'm not into arguing, I'm just posting my opinion on the OP's question.

I misread the box score. It was the SU 42, not the FSU 42.

Still, we weren't getting any stops yesterday.

Although we did get a few but proceeded to fair catch the ball 3 times inside the 10. It's like we still don't have a special teams coach. After the one at the 5 Pena seemed to recognize he probably made a mistake, but then did it again at the 6 later.
