Not so much. The Five Top Conferences are not looking out for the health of college football but rather for their conference and their teams only. Here is why I think this is so: 1. Access has actually not increased and some would say it has been made more difficult for non Top 5 conference teams to make it into the Big 6 Bowls and then the NC --presumed 6 Top bowls with 3 of them contracted --Rose (B1G/Pac12), Champions (SEC/Big 12) and Orange (ACC/TBD) --For the 12 spots only 7 (Orange TBD) are open --However if teams for the 2 semis are from the Top 5 conferences that leaves only 3 spots available...one for the Orange and 2 for the other Big 6 bowl not mentioned above --So the BE, Boise State etc are left trying to get to one of those spots...now it is true that a non Top 5 conference team can make the semis if ranked 1-4 that has typically proven difficult to accomplish...but the Top Five conferences most likely get 3 of the spots...NOT MUCH ACCESS THERE or in other bowls since the contracted bowls have to take 5 teams from the contracted conferences--only Orange has a TBD team 2. Dollars are expected to increase greatly for the games --For example, ACC owns the Orange Bowl TV rights--even when the bowl is a semi and an ACC team doesnt make it to a semi (of course its champion is guaranteed a position in one of the other non semi big 6 bowls)--this should spark a negotiation war for the highest bidder (dont forget one reason the ACC final TV contract came out where it did was because there was no competition--ESPN owned the right to negotiate) 3. NCAA is being cut out of the dollars for the bowls...going to colleges and conferences only...so dollars have increased for the conferences and teams by taking out the NCAA 4. Percentage of dollars that flow to conferences/teams is being discussed now. It has been indicated that the top 5 conferences/teams will take home 55%-65% of available dollars and all others will get the remainder...% not so different from present BCS but a)no NCAA cut and b)more dollars on open market negotiation So the good feeling about ACCESS and Dollars is that 'Cuse is going to one of the soon to be richer conferences and the BE among others is not going to do as well--of course if the pot gets really, really bigger than the old BCS; maybe the other conferences and teams will do as well as before--but the differential is actual dollar disparity will be far greater. Now we wait and see what actually is finalized.
