ponder this starting lineup for a moment

PG - Junior Michael Carter-Williams (McD AA)
SG - Senior Dion Waiters (NBA All Rookie)
SF - Senior CJ Fair (pre-season ACC POY)
PF - Junior Rakeem Christmas (McD AA)
C - Sophomore Dajuan Coleman (McD AA)

and deprive the NBA of future stars, now you can't be serious

obviously that team would be awesome - but if I was an opposing coach, I would play 40 minutes of zone.

That's the all-time, all-Boheimed backcourt.

PG - MCW/Ennis
SG - Dion/Cooney/Patterson
SF - CJ/Gbinije/Johnson
PF - Grant/Rak/Roberson
C - Fab/DC/BMK

Yeah, safe to say that team could have gone undefeated.

Of course you can play this game with any team, and the results will be the same. Everyone loses players early at the elite level. Still fun to consider what might have been.

I don't think Cj would be pre season acc player of the year with that lineup.

yup . . . the thing is that the backcourt is the year's obvious weakness question mark, and (arguably) the two best Orange guards in years could still be eligible

Haha yeah, if we're doing that for everyone, it's probably Kyrie Irving, right?

Take a look at what Kentucky's lineup would look like.

They couldn't afford to keep a roster like that. Would have equated to the national GDP of Canada.

If you could take UK's team over that period, they'd probably be the best, but obviously the issue with this exercise is UK isn't getting the top recruiting class of all time or whatever if they are returning so much talent

for example, if Anthony Davis returns, then Noel probably goes to Georgetown

Yeah, and if Daniel Orton and Terrence Jones and Cousins are still at UK does Davis decided to go there?

We're kind of in the sweet spot with recruiting for this exercise where we don't recruit one and doners consistently but we still recruit reeally well. It's pretty conceivable we'd have that team if guys stayed for 4 years is what I'm saying

It wouldn't work for Kentucky, because they bring in about 6 people every year. I don't think you can keep 24 people on scholarship.

JB is doing really well at identifying good but not great (yet) guys who are willing to wait their turn while learning the system. for the rest of the nation, Dion came out of nowhere as a soph, then last year MCW came out of nowhere, this year it will be Grant, next year Roberson . . .

Dion and MCW didn't come out of nowhere. They were both very highly recruited and MCW played in the McDonalds AA game.

of course, but most people who were not Syracuse fans did not expect them to have anything like the sophomore seasons they did

I wish we could have seen more Waiters and less Triche 2 years ago :(. Best pure scorer we've seen since Melo IMO.

MCW kind of did come out of nowhere. He wasn't a heavily recruited guy when we jumped on him. The staff did a great job of seeing the potential he had. I believe he was a three-star when he committed to us, and there were people who were like, "Whaaa? Who is this kid?" But he blew up the summer before his senior year, I think it was, and became a blue chip guy his senior year before making the McDonald's roster.

Huh? We didn't have to beat anyone to land them. MCW was no one when we found him, and Dion committed when he was in like fourth grade.

I'll also throw in the future McDonalds All American and lottery pick who was a footnote to the big Paul Harris committment.

I don't quite understand why. We went 34-3 and in the biggest loss of the 3, Dion fouled out - so he got all the playing time he could handle in that game.

I think the playing time arrangement forced Dion into some personal reflections and really helped him mature.

I'm glad we weren't in a situation where JB felt there was a need to tolerate his immaturity. I believe the program is stronger for it.

I should have chose my words more wisely, they were big time recruits.

That said it wasn't a surprise they blew up and became great players.
