It seemed quite clear while watching on television that Shamarko Thomas suffered minimally a mild concussion. If not, he clearly was mentally shaken from the hit he put on the Cardinals player, was wobbly walking off the field and unsure of himself as he headed towards the Syracuse sideline.

Then shock of shocks, Thomas is back on the field within five plays?

How is this even possible? What could Thomas have possibly said to our medical staff that made them think he was fine to return?

As an alum and someone that bleeds ORANGE, I love the dedication these young men show to the school, program, game, etc. But someone needs to be there to save them from themselves in situations like this ... The risks are clear ...

i thought the major concern was going to be the mic on the guy singing the national anthem not being turned on until he was 2/3 of the way done

I was thinking the same thing when I saw him return. Usually the medical staff confiscates the player's helmet so he can't return.

I felt so bad for that guy and he is a professional entertainer.

Was surprised by his return also. He plays so hard that he is always a play from being hurt. I have to trust the med staff though that they see what happens and wouldn't let a kid back out there that could possibly have a concussion. Especially with his history. At least I hope we can trust them.

Hoping we can trust them is the key concern I have ... I'm not positive on that -

Of course, Lacy the RB for Alabama totally got his bell rung, almost fell as he was walking off the field and was back in the game a few minutes later. So I guess we are no different ... but I'd like for us to be above that sort of thing.

They have a series of protocols to follow in checking out a possible concussion, no? I can't believe they would risk everything (a kid's health, discovery and punishment, etc.) just to get a player back in the game. And if they did, I would not want them working the Syracuse sidelines.

Understood, but what kind of protocol allows a clearly "stumbling - because of a hit to the head - player heading to the sidelines" back into the game five plays later?

I heard the coaches point up towards the coordinator boxes and ask "How many fingers is that tall Texan guy holding up?". It's a rigged test.
