Some of you have been talking about how our team gets exposed on film and that has led to our demise late in the season after starting fast. Go posted this, and perhaps others. And it is somewhat of a good point.
But as I think about it more, we aren't getting "exposed" until six or seven games into the season. I don't know about you, but I don't see a ton of trickery out there on offense or special teams, so I'm not so sure where we are fooling people and it takes them 2 months of football to figure out our complicated game plans and tactics.
Rather, we have been getting worn down from injuries, suspensions and defections, leaving us with short squads at the midpoint of each of Doug's 3 seasons so far. Part of that is because he has these guys hitting hard in practice, because we had turned into such a soft team under Robinson - he of the infamous "thud" drills. Injuries mount when you are going 100% all the time in practice. To me, this is a factor as well.
One would hope that they can teach these kids how to tackle, without having to keep beating each other up in practice late in the season, so as to avoid further injury.
For once this year, I don't want to hear how we are down so many men that we can't hold a full practice because of injury, suspension and defection. Time to start being smart about these things.
