Accurate depiction or inaccurate Hollywood demonization of Louisiana culture?

I didn't see anyone dressed like this or who talked like this when I was in Louisiana...

In fairness, I went to the Great New York State Fair this year, and I guarantee our rednecks can compete with your rednecks in terms of lack of personal hygiene.
personal hygiene isn't really a problem down here, just people speaking a completely different language

The people that magically come out of the woodwork and into the State Fair are not from Syracuse. Im convinced those people live in the hills of pennsylvania..those hills have eyes.

I believe that is a universal problem in the south whether or not you were born there. When I worked in Arkansas it took me months to figure out what some of my employees were saying. And here in NC speech can be just as uncomprehendable.

No understand that. I have friends from Looziana. But "southern" is a dialect also.

When I first moved to VA, we moved to a small town called Abingdon right on the Tenn border for about 2 years. When some folks spoke down there, it sounded like bangos playing. lol

my accent (I am from New Orleans) is closer to a Brooklyn accent than any southern accents you might be used to. In Louisiana there are 3 pretty distinct accents. North Louisiana is your typical southern accent. Southwest Louisiana is your Cajun accent, whereas New Orleans, mostly due to being one of the largest immigration ports, is very similar to a Brooklyn/NYC accent

someone should make a documentary about upstate NY fireman's carnivals. i'd call it Beer Tent. the creatures that come out for the Stafford Fireman's Carnival are unbelievable.

there are two ways out of that carnival. the cops wait there every year. and every year there are a hundred dwi arrests. it's like the sheep dog and the wolf from looney tunes over and over
