He played well against Pitt and Duke in the ACC tournament and had a very bad game in the NCAA tournament against Baylor.

I can't see anyone with any knowledge of basketball being confused why he played so much against Pitt and Duke.

Against Baylor, Buddy played 39 minutes.  Hughes also played 39.  Oshae played 38, as did Battle.

Buddy didn't play a lot at the expense of Hughes or Brissett.   The Big Four all played close to 40 minutes to help make up for the loss of Frank Howard.

You can say after the fact, now knowing Buddy would out of the blue have an awful game, that he shouldn't have played that much and much less accomplished players should have played instead.  But if JB had done that, he would have been criticized roundly.  This time, with justification.

I think JB did the right thing.

If you want to argue that Carey and Braswell should have played more minutes in all the previous games, so they would be ready for the game when Howard would be suspended and Buddy would play poorly, that is a better argument and one I don't completely disagree with.
