I have been in regular contact with Mark Hayes throughout the summer and we have talked frequently following John Wildhack's announcement in April that the NIL channels for Syracuse would be streamlined by July 1. Mark has shared that talks have been ongoing and has always termed them as positive. We last spoke on August 2nd and there were a couple of issues left to hammer out. Since then there has been no final resolution and with the ever changing landscape involving government, the NCAA, business and the clearinghouse activities I have no level of confidence how this will turn out. Several of you who have contributed to the SyraCRUZ Tailgate NIL Initiative (rebranded back to the Fine Mess Tailgate) have reached out asking for advice regarding contributions to OUC and monthly subscriptions. In full transparency I cannot provide any definitive information. Each donor must make a personal decision on whether to cancel, pause or continue contributions at this point. Thank you for your support of our program over the last three years and I truly wish I could provide more specific guidance. It is disappointing that this close to the start of the 2025-26 year nothing more solid has come from the SUAD. SU Football NIL continues to operate and support the football program. There are apparently a number of major donors supporting men's basketball. While we are a very small piece of the overall picture we have completed deals in the amount of $68k with 42 student athletes across eight sports. All have been very appreciative but the men's and women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosse, volleyball and women's basketball representatives have been especially thankful. I can share that one non-scholarship student athlete used his appearance fee at a tailgate to buy books for the semester. Another paid for a hotel room so her family could come to Syracuse and watch her play. Until there is a full resolution I don't know if there will be any fan based, grass roots support efforts to continue programs in that vein.
