If they are accurate, we could be in for a long season. They just ranked Maryland and there are some surprises in front of Syracuse.

Maryland #56
Central Michigan #62
Pittsburgh #66
Syracuse #73
BC #84
NC State #98
West Virginia #99
Wake Forest #100
Virginia #119

Phil Steele says CNY is tied with UTSA in terms of teams returning the most starters from last season. That is the good news. That bad news is that they all started for CMU. If you believe in returning starters, watch out also for Maryland and that school from Joisey.

Syracuse is #26 on that list.

Think Steele had us around #57...closer to reality.

We really need a breakout year to shake off the GRob effect with the media.

I've never cared about pre-season rankings. Yes it influences perception. But how you finish leaves a long and lasting image.

Lmao UB is ranked in front of SU after losing Brandon Oliver, Neutz, Evans, Khalil Mack and several other key players.

This list is terribad.

Everytime i hear beat notre dame a tear of happiness wells in my eye.

Ignorance is bliss. This guy is VERY Happy! At least he has us ending up 7-6.

I'd prefer to beat expectations rather than not meet them. Go ahead and rank us #120, we'll see you during bowl season!

You are right Mark. Perception is still an issue. We are just starting to climb out the abyss that was the GROB years in terms of national perception, IMO.

I also think that we, the collective SU fan base, need to keep in mind that 2013 team was 30 seconds away from finishing 5-7, with embarrassing, televised blowout losses to NW, Clemson, FSU, GT. Is it really that surprising that the media does not share the belief by most here that this is an 8 or 9 regular season win team?

Yes - would expect someone to do his homework before writing a column, rather than sloppily rely on incomplete perceptions.

I thought we did that under Marrone? Or maybe we were getting there but then lost 9(?) straight BCS games. SU, or at least it's fans, would be better off by not living off excuses 6 years old. It's why so many think winning 7 games is a great thing.

Orlando Sentinel had the worst rankings in the country last summer. Had us in the 90s or 100s, it was an embarrassment.
