I believe one of our own board moderators was responsible in part for number 5, having set up the first such tribute many years ago. On a related note, the man in image #1 is someone I know, mourning a former schoolmate/team mate of mine from my high school days, at this year's 9/11 commemoration in NYC. It's strange to see someone I've met, grieving someone I've know, go global. So often we see these images, shake our head at the tragedy, and move rapidly on. The Peraza family have been such a model of strength, it'sfitting that Mr. Peraza is an icon of a moment. That this image was named by buzzfeed as the #1 most powerful image of 2011 is testimony to the anguish and power of people in such moments.
