The ads I see crop up for this forum are pretty ... diverse. Last night it was for “elegant lady wigs”, I wish I had a screenshot of that. This morning when I saw an ad for miniature guns and Pitt Panthers Team Shop. I imagine we’re all getting ads targeted/tailored to us in some fashion or another. What I see sometimes cracks me up — anyone get odd ads?

Arent the ads you see just determined by an algorithm that's based upon your browsing history? Let us know when you get a banner for Cougar Life.

Don't think so, think it's recent/overall searches of those that use the board. I laugh at some that pop up honestly.

Currently I'm getting pop ups for landscaping (don't need it), Cadillac (don't want it), Boston area transit (never been), and lax equipment (kids don't play it) all of which I've never searched.

The ones that make me laugh are the adds that pop up for dating sites to meet singles for some... Ahem... Very specific ethnic, and/or other specific tastes. I always laugh and think "wonder who on this board is searching these with enough regularity that the adds algorithm picks them up?"

I do prospect research for a living, so my search algorithms must be all out of whack just based on the random things that I need to search for. For example - for the past couple of weeks, Google adwords has been giving me ads for used corporate jets and luxury residences in Dubai, when in reality, I should be getting ads for used Toyotas and market-rate apartments in Baldwinsville.

Google makes a kajillion dollars selling "targeted" ads. Then Google controls all of the data that those ads generate. Google then provides purchasers of said ads that data via its own research, and it almost always proves that they were effective. Now think about the ads you get and how you generally react to them.

It's quite the system.

I get ads all the time for t-shirts with giant pictures of animals on them. Like it will be an extreme closeup of a cartoon dog, etc.

Ads are determined by search history, cookies on your browser and whatever the mic on your phone picks up (invasive, I know). Delete your cookies and revoke access of the microphone from the apps that you use. Hope this helps.

Yeah, it’s a wacky batch of stuff for me. The university of Alabama Caribbean Cruise is today’s winner for me.

Tonight’s mix is some dude with the words “Reigning Champion” under him, a very colorful ad with the words “Sustainable Goals” over TBA Media, Nordic Track (long-standing ad) and Feelin’ Good Tees (another old standby of forum ads). Remarkable how there is no call to action in most of these.

Yeah ads based on our own internet doings is horsecrap.
I’m not gay.
I’m not a farmer looking for love.
I’ve never even been to a Sonic.
I can’t send my kid to MPH school.

Lol!!!!

I don't know why these ads want me to go camping with my gun. ;)
