Syracuse's own Andray Blatche has been granted Filipino citizenship and will play for the Philippines in the FIBA World Cup in August. Weird:

What's weirder is that the Philippines already have another American naturalized for their national team: Marcuse Douthit, who is also Syracuse-born and bred:

some of the nicest people on the planet and beautiful - not a bad place to call home. Overlapping values as well since most Filipinos are Catholic - makes it uniquely easy in asia to live there as a westerner.

Totally forgot about Marcus; he was in my study hall when I was a freshman in high school. He was tall enough to have to duck under the doorway.

Anyway, that can't be a coincidence; funny that kids who grew up within a few blocks of one another will play on a national team half a world away.

I love Andray Blatche for taking the minimum to sign with the Nets so the Wiz would have to pay him what they owed. (may not have been the min he took exactly, but close)
