AAC, Mountain West, C-USA, A10, NCHC fans - CBS Sports Network $4.99

Just thought I'd pass along to any cord cutters out there who want free antenna TV but are willing to pay for CBS Sports Network in season to watch their conference's sports games.

SkitterTV is selling CBS Sports Network ala cart for $4.99 per month with no contract. Fans could buy 3 months for $14.97 and watch the entire A10 basketball conference season (25 games) or MWC/C-USA football season or NCHC College Hockey season for less than $15.

It also comes bundled with some other channels that are not as popular like NewsMax, OutdoorTV, etc...

It is available on Roku or Computer.

h/t: Miami (Oh) Yeah

Note: I think this is just the CBS College Sports channel but it might be nice for our UConn friends to watch their games

i think this is a good example for those who think that ala carte is going to make them a lot better off.

if CBS Sports Network's lousy programming costs $5 a month, how much is ESPN going to cost?

I'm guessing about $25-30 a month. I would gladly pay it and cut the cord.

Eh, we've talked about this in the past. Give me ESPN as it exists on Apple TV and on my iPad for $30 a month. HBOGO for another $10. Netflix for $9. I'll buy any shows I want via iTunes (not many, if any).

Cheaper without the bizillion channels.

OK, so it's á la carte.

OK, so it's not.

I just checked their website. It's a bundle, with some audio music channels, religious channels, QVC, some Mexican channels and some other new channels.

There are also local channels for some DMAs

Not bad if you've cut the cord and need the CBS Sports Channel. They've carried SU women's lax in the past.

Also - how about this. I can buy a season pass to Mad Men or Justified. High quality content on all my devices.

How much would you pay for a Syracuse sports season pass? Every Football, Basketball, and Lax game? On every device?

Netfix is suppose be a channel on cable/dish sometime.

plenty of other sports on other cable channels I'd want to watch. TNT MSG YES might want to get FS1 too. wife and kids then only get the TV channels I like?

pretty soon you're paying what you already pay with fewer channels and no option to ever watch any of the other channels.

i don't want to watch on every device but that's just me. tv is just fine. most proponents of ala carte aren't out there saying "well sure you get less channels for the same money but hey you'll get to watch on your watch"

i would pay a sh!tload. in an ala carte world, they will price it accordingly and charge a sh!tload. profit maximizing price is likely what die hard SU fans would pay.

once you go beyond ESPN the ala carte pricing wont work for most people. ESPN only gets you so far down the sports road. you like baseball, hockey, nba, soccer, nascar, golf. you can get the entire TW package for $60 a month . Ala Carte pricing for just 2-3 things is going to cost you $30-40 is the hassle and flexibility really worth it?

I hear you on that. My wife and kids are pretty happy with just Netflix and HBO...

I think what's getting out of whack is the perceived value vs watching habits. I almost exclusively watch ESPN on the Apple TV or iPad. I pay money per month for a DVR no one uses. Time Warner sports is about all I turn the thing on for (and only because ESPN 3 is blocked out due to TWC sports showing it).

So we almost never use the cable box to watch things. Our TWC credentials are used far more for logging in via other devices.

$90+ for only ESPN, TNT (NBA), and TWC sports seems out of whack when compared to $9 a month for Netflix. Our families viewing habits make it seem like a waste of cash. I have to hold off my wife when we talk about it - seems crazy to her to pay that much for a few games.

if i didn't watch sports, I might cut the cord. but for how much i enjoy it, i'd probably pay a lot more than i do

i like house of cards but there's no substitute for that SU duke game on netflix. ala carte would force me to be honest with my wife about how much this stuff is worth to me compared to saving that money for kids college or fixing the house.

Yup.

Why do people never include the monthly amount they pay for broadband in the cost of having Netflix, etc?

Those $9 a month are kind of waste without the $50+ you need to pay for Internet access.

:noidea:

without or without tv/netflix, i think those people are assuming they'll get internet access no matter what

I'm sure.

And wait 'til their pretty little, cord cutting, cost saving heads try and comprehend a monthly broadband bill of $100+.

:)

broadband bill is going to get up quickly when the streaming load really takes off. really I would much rather eliminate the $250 family cell phone plan before i tried to eliminate a $100 cable bill.. I pay way more for a phone i try to never use than for a tv plan i watch all the time. cell phone bills are working up to a car payment..

I'm sure.

you know i'm with you on this bundling stuff but there are plenty of broadband providers with no TV charging less than that

It's one of those things that ticks you off of you visit any other country. We pay a premium for relatively crappy internet.

Established monopolies with too much to lose = customers lose.

For sure. But they're not supporting the bandwidth that'll be necessary if 10-20 million households drop TV and go broadband only while viewing a similar amount of video.

To be fair, many other countries have government-run TV with farrrrr less content options as the US.

Pick your poison.

agree - i was just referring to right now. your standard cord cutting tech blogger thinks that these networks just get built up magically

Has anyone done the analysis of what you save on cable, but then pay for the alimony and child support?

I think there are no good options.
