I think you might be able to save a little money going to on property hotels that aren't on the monorail, but on the bus service to the parks e.g. Port Orleans or Coronado Springs. If you are going to Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios you are taking buses there anyway. I think you definitely want to do a meal plan if you can swing it.
