They were all interviewed and a down select was made to Grob and Gray then Grob hired. And what red flags on Grob were there related to being a HC? He had no HC experience. Just like Marrone didn't or Shafer didn't. The hire didn't work out but Gross was able to use the process and model he wanted so it wasn't rushed.
