How about a Red Bull instead of your Diet Coke there Mikey!

I have to say, I always thought Mike made the Mike & The Mad Dog Program what itvwas- a great radio show.

Now I am more and more convinced that the Dog was crucial to the show.

Mike seems to have struggled without his old partner and I'm surprised about that.

I think that show is way too long for a one person show. 3 hours tops, but isn't it 5.5 hours right now?

Yep, that's the problem. That's why he needed Chris to keep it lively. Five hours is a long time for any one person (not named Rush Limbaugh) to talk at you.

Mike's ratings have gone through the roof since Mad Dog left actually. While Dog fights to get phone callers on Sirius. He has one of the lowest listened to stations on all of Sirius actually according to the Sirius tracking numbers.

Francesca is painful to listen to. I like the other shows on WFAN, but listen to Michael Kay on ESPN instead of the riteous godfather of sports talk.

Yeah, contrary to what Stern's post suggests, my understanding was that the ESPN station was hurting Mike - he can't get ESPN associated guests, etc.

Does anybody know the NYC sports radio numbers?

Where on the dial or phone numbers? WFAN- 660 am, WEPN (ESPN Radio) is 98.7 FM. You can also hear it on Sirius/XM.

Wait, I'm an idiot. You probably meant ratings. No clue on that.

Francesa is the biggest toolbag. He is dismissive of most any caller who does not agree with him - letting them know he thinks they are idiots. He never lets the opportunity to pass to share with the "great unwashed" how well connected he is to major sports figures!

This couldn't happen to a "nicer guy"!

What you don't know how to Google? I am no Mike Francesa homer, but facts are facts. ESPN NY has been awful in ratings for years. They did switch to an FM feed recently and got a small bump but are still light years behind WFAN and Francesa. Oh yeah, Michael Kay is about to be fired its so bad. Here are a few links that prove Francesa's ratings went up AFTER Mad Dog Russo left and he has won more awards and is more popular now than ever. And that Kay's job is in jeopardy with his radio show

But nothing lasts forever. When SiriusXM came knocking at Russo’s door in 2008, they made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. In truth, by then, both men were eager to see if they could succeed solo as mightily as they had as a team. Some doubted that Mike could carry the burden alone, speculating that he needed Russo’s zaniness to leaven his approach. Management was proceeding cautiously – an immediate new co-host could not be what Russo was for fear of masquerading as a pale imitation. To introduce a whole new dynamic – a woman, an intellectual, a true comedian or maybe a retired sports figure – could be equally perilous.
But while trying to figure things out, a pleasant phenomenon occurred. Mike thrived on his own. His radio persona grew into its full spectrum; rather than play Russo’s intelligent straight man, his own sense of humor blossomed. He was able to hold forth on pop culture – music, movies, television and politics – using the audience as his foil. The ratings thrived.

That's what talk radio is in this country. Rush, Hanity, Rome...etc. Be brash, have strong opinions and be a "know-it-all." Francesa isn't different than any other successful radio host these days

And what happened to him that was bad? He made headlines this week and MORE people will tune in now! lol Oh yeah, as the ratings and money roll in Francesa sure got taught a lesson! lol lol. Please!

I know espn switched to 98.7fm from 1050am. Francesa is on 660am, WFAN
