Is reporting the knicks are on the verge of signing JR Smith. Thoughts? I personally love it.

Interesing fact: If knicks sign JR Smith they will need to cut a player. 2 weeks ago that would have been Jeremy Lin.

Another interesting fact...not only did Houston release Lin... but they own the Knicks first round draft pick next year...which is getting devalued by the day :)

Yea. Most likely Bibby since Balkmans contract is ridiculous. We need all the firepower we can get to compete with the Heat and Bulls. This signing means end of game need a bucket situations Lin/Smith/Melo/Amare/Chandler. Wow, who do you focus on? Sick lineup and gives the Knicks nice depth with Baron/Shumpert/Novak/Jeffries/Harrelson/Smith or Fields.

Knicks are apparently asking the league if they can play with 2 balls... with an eye on signing JR Smith.

Haha but just imagine if they all buy in...the upside is, dare i say, Lincredible?

That will make Melo happy. Hopefully it doesn't ruin any good mojo they got going now. If he can come in and knock down shots it will be great.

JR will win some games going 7-10 from 3, but he may also lose games going 1-10. He needs to learn to share the ball, but he is a high-flyer and a volume scorer. All he is going to need to do is be open on the perimeter and shoot when he is open. Good spot for him.

JR was supposedly a pal of Carmelo's in Denver. He can shoot & he has uber-athleticism. He will need to accept a role in NY and not force his game. If he can do that he will be a gret addition to the Knicks. If he can't he will ride pine. JR for the Knicks is a luxury and not a cornerstone player. If he doesn't get with the program the knicks are very solid already @ 2G w Landry & Shump. JR could potentially get a few minutes backing up the point, but that is certainly not his natural position & it would just be a matter of him being a bit of an upgrade over Douglas & Bibby and a bit of insurance in case Baron does not make it back.

Like it if he's willing to come of the bench and let Fields start. Wonder what's going on w/ Davis-Is he ever gonna play for NY?

He isn't going to be happy with a sub role. So that means a lot less minutes for Fields and Shump. I don't get the need.

Do you trust either of them shooting threes in the playoffs...because I dont.

Smith was a 6th man in Denver.

I still think they need some punch off the bench. I'm a huge Lin fan, but can he actually be this good? I'm assuming he isn't one of the 2 or 3 best PG in the league, nut more like a solid above average player. So I think we'll need that scoring punch JR can provide.

I just think we need JR because we are a horrible 3 point shooting team. We have a pg who can break down the defense and guys who can finish around the rim, but nobody besides Novak who can shoot it from deep consistantly. Not even sure if I trust Novak in the playoffs and I definately dont trust Iman/Landry taking those shots so I'm all for signing JR. A potential lineup of Lin/JR/Melo/Amare/Chandler could be unguardable.

I hope that the lineup does change and JR and fields come off the bench, mostly because I feel better about fields at the 3 than I do the 2

Let fields back up melo and let the first unit be

pg: Lin
sg: Shumpert
sf: melo
pf: amare
c: chandler

keeps a lock down defender on the perimeter and one in the paint to compensate for Melo/Amare

2nd unit

Pg: Davis / TD Bibby
sg: JR
sf: fields
pf: Novak/ Jorts/ JJ
c: JJ/ Jorts

and maybe even swap fields and shumpert and JR around depending on matchups and such

the team bottom line now has amazing depth where as two weeks ago they had basically nothing whatsoever
