Since 1950, Michigan has one national championship (1997). Ohio State has seven. Schembechler won a whopping no national championships.

I suspect Michigan got tired of being the "clean" program which couldn't keep up with Ohio State, and decided that they were going to do what they needed to do to win. If that meant bending the rules to the point it is cheating - so be it.
