Father rushes to Kentucky game with family after getting off work at a coal mine.

pretty awesome, and Calipari was classy(for once), he invited the family as VIP guests to a UK game

Apologies if already posted.
I’ve never been a fan of Calipari, too many snake-oil/car-dealer vibes from him. And honestly, I don’t think he’s a great coach- maybe the best recruiter ever, but lacks the in-game X’s and O’s to be a consistent champion.
But I also didn’t know he was the son of a WV coal-miner, always pegged him as a Jersey, Philly, maybe Vegas kinda hustler. Give credit where it’s due though- this is a great story:

My only gripe is: do it without having to make a deal on social media. Let someone else leak the story.

Not according to Wikipedia - born in Pennsylvania and dad was a working man, a steel worker . Nice story though.

“Calipari was born in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. He is of Italian descent. He attended Moon Area High School and graduated in 1978. His father worked in a steel mill and later at an airport. His mother worked in the school cafeteria, serving pizza.”

His grandfather was the coal worker.

I've always had admiration for the guys and gal's who put themselves in harms way to keep our country going. You can tell by the picture that guy sacrifices for his family. I have great respect to all blue collar workers.

This song really hits the point home.

Read the story. He used social media to track this guy down. It wasn’t self promotion
It is when he does it under his account. An intern could have done it for him. It's a really good gesture and I don't mean to take away from it, but it's also self promotion.

And that could just be your own personal bias talking. You realize his account will cast a far wider net than an interns, right?

I was going to point out that Cal's 1.5 million followers would be a more effective way to track the guy down than some intern who is only followed by his friends - but I wasn't sure I wanted to get involved :)

I think what is meant it could have been put on the Kentucky basketball twitter rather than Cal's. But I've got no.problem with Cal doing it.

If Boeheim did the same thing, there would be 8 threads started lauding him. Two of them by the capt. including one on the support forum.

I’d have to agree.
Regardless of how it got out, it’s a good story- and PayPalCal made it go viral. Can’t quarrel w/ any of that. And it also doesn’t change the fact that he’s a world-class dirtbag. JMHO

I know John Chaney once threatened to kill Cal on some presser, any idea what that was about? I think he was at UMass then...was it recruiting related?
